The New Zealand National Road Cycling Championships proved a gold rush for Meridian Blue p/b 99 Bikes. Under 23 squad members Kirsty Watts and Rhylee Akeroyd clearly landed in Timaru in great form.

On a cold and windy Thursday morning Kirsty put in a dominating and powerful display over the 24 km time trial course, winning by more than 90 seconds in a time that would have placed her fifth in the Elite category.

Not to be outdone by her teammate, Rhylee approached the mixed elite and U23 road race with the typical determination that has characterised her cycling career. On a five lap course with only really one testing climb in it she managed to stick with the elite group and claim the U23 Silver Fern just ahead of Kirsty who backed up with a wonderful ride for second.

Only a little over 12 hours after the race finished both writers jumped on the plane destined for Melbourne to race in the ProVelo Super League.
